Ravenna is named after an Italian town known for its colorful mosaics. It began construction in 2012 under Frank Liu's Lovett Homes. The community features a mix of upscale townhomes and detached single-family homes. This is like other developer projects such as Southside Circle.

The master plan for the community includes a central park area and a resort-style pool. It is a gated community with a manned entrance 24/7.

Most of the Spring Branch area was forested and settled by German farmers.
